No wonder drum are the pits on this one

Previous bassist was an actual monster. They were probably glad to be rid.

Yeah, what a lame way to get way fired from a band. And he was certainly no Michael Anthony.

How could I not let this pass without comment ...
Ride release a really enjoyable new album today - "This is not a safe place" https://www.thebandride.com/

Okay. It's pretty good.

It'll be interesting to hear some of the new tracks live this autumn. They generally don't improvise or depart much from the recorded versions of songs, but the live sound is usually fuller and warmer and is all the better for it.

I think that these ones are basically record signing events, but Oxford the following eve is already sold out, so you might want to check availability. Kingston is due to be an 'electric' set, the first couple of nights were short acoustic sets (see https://twitter.com/RideTheNetwork/status/1163159862802624512 ), but I decided to save my money for one of the full shows in Nov / Dec.

Been enjoying the Telescopes compilation “splashdown” .
It catalogues the creation recordings
So nothing from Taste, but a couple of recordings from that era.
It sounds like a band giving up heroin and switching to Ecstasy. -

Weirdly I've been enjoying The Telescopes a lot recently too but not Splashdown. Will give it a try. I've been listening to "As Approved by the Committee" which is also a compilation.
Good to see "Catherine Wheel - Ferment" getting some love earlier in this thread too. Absolutely love that album.

Missed the ‘scopes last month on Bristol...would rather have seen them than hot snakes.

Randomly heard Ride - Twisterella recently for the first time in about 20 years. Totally forgotten it, but it's a great little pop single. Though not very shoegazee.

This week I saw a middle aged guy in a Ride t-shirt and a young woman (in my little, sleepy suburban street!) with a Slowdive tote slung over her shoulder. Fucking. Wild.

Shoegaze seems pretty big at the moment. Not sure if it's because a few of the originals have been coming back recently so interest has returned, or if they've been coming back because the interest has naturally come back around to it but I've been hearing quite a lot of shoegaze/adjacent stuff from newer bands.
I reckon it's the lockdowns that lead to a bunch of music folk getting bored and so they bought a bunch of pedals.
I really enjoyed that early 2010s reverbed-out slightly frenetic shoegaze sound. RiP
