  • Compulsory pedestrian insurance. For everyone, even toddlers (they're the worst!)

  • Stop, unless unsafe to do so. Rather than stop if safe

    You say potato...

  • Have to agree. Some absolute mega cunts let loose on the roads!

  • And you say carrot...

I'm (for once, honestly) not just being pedantic - they mean different things.

  • they mean different things.

Out of interest, how? Don't "safe" and "unsafe" between them cover all eventualities?

    Nope.

"Stop unless unsafe" means the default behaviour is to stop, and you have to identify a specific risk in order to justify continuing.

"Stop if safe" means the default behaviour is to continue, and you'd only stop if you can quickly confirm there is no possible risk. Since it's hard to prove a negative, in practice you'd almost always continue unless the road was empty.

  • Anyway, thank you for the replies - my question was answered, I think. Plus this has all been very amusing!

  • Some epic twat trying to ride no-handed all the way up TCR this evening. Not only is it very skettchy for peds stepping out behind traffic now they've made it 2-way, this massive idiot is filtering no-handed up the inside and outside. Then another cyclist pulls out, slightly in front of him sure but not too bad, and this oaf starts shouting at him. Other cyclist just ignored it, at the next light no-hands starts mouthing off again and I told him he was the "only dangerous fucker on this road" he says "I do what I want you fat fuck" and rides off no handed flipping the double bird. At that point I let him ride off to his destiny :/

  • he might have a friend in south London : /
Darwin will catch up with him at some point.

  • I was cycling along at my usual sluggish pace, when all of a sudden a cyclist shot out of a side street to my left performing a right turn. I was obliged to brake and, in the suddenness of the situation, let out an anguished "Hey!" There was no collision but the other cyclist looked over her shoulder and informed me, in no uncertain terms, that I was a fucking wanker. Now, this may have been an accurate assessment of me but, in the circumstances, I did not feel it to be entirely apposite. I did not, however, feel the need to respond.

  • Clive, you should dispose of your cheery, sunny disposition while commuting and wear the one of the fierce legal eagle and other folk might be too worried to call you a wanker*.

*although you might be called it more

  • At that point I let him ride off to his destiny :/

    Did lol

    Once bitten...

  • Nah they're just waiting till they can afford a Vauxhall razz mobile to drive round...looks like for now a push iron will do

  • Once bitten...

I’ve never been called shy ;-)

  • Locking my bike up at the racks in Paddington last night, lady comes to remove hers from the other side of the same rack, we have a nice chat and she heads off. I bend down to get on with locking mine at which point a chap in suit spots the space she vacated, rushes to claim it and in his haste to lock up twats me in the head with his handlebars. Twice. I was so taken aback I couldn’t even muster a ‘U wot m8’, and instead just wondered off, somewhat confused, to my train.

Yeah that was me, I'm trying to perfect the no-hands thing to impress the drivers. Sorry about calling you fat, although in some countries it's a sign of wealth and status so you could interpret that as a compliment.

  • I haven't watched the video, which is not linked to from the article, but here's RPM at it again:

    https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/cyclist-blames-driver-after-crash-while-he-was-performing-wheelie-on-london-street-a4214566.html

It sounds a bit as if he's fallen in with the BikeStormz crew and rides about doing constant wheelies. (I don't know if it was them, but as wheelies are their signature move, it seems likely. I may be wrong.)

  • Thanks, Dave. Quite apart from the very impressive bike control in going through the narrow gaps between moving cars, it's obviously the rider's mistake when trying to change lanes.
