That's understandable, it was the first year and I don't think most people new what to expect. I'd put the widest tire I can for this, no less than 2" for sure.

Probably people in the 40mm range are simply limited by frame max clearance.

Yeah, I would use the widest tyres I could find. I've just ordered a bunch of different tyres for the Mason for the same reason. Tops out at 32/33mm though. Got some Pro4 28s and a G-One Speed in my bag now and some other tyres in that range coming soon.
