It’s a mid 80s Japanese model btw.

I'm in love with this headstock from guitarbuild.co.uk.
Thinking about building a walnut body precision bass with all maple neck with this headstock, Lindy Fralin P-Bass pickup, Babicz Z-series bridge and Hipshot tuners.
Super thin black nitro finish and a parchment pickguard with cream pickup cover.Anyone bought anything from guitarbuild.co.uk before?

Yeah that's got too many holes.

Obviously in 4-string format...

I would worry about the stability of that headstock, looks like crack city to me...

I do have concerns around that, waiting to hear back from guitarbuild as to what they think of it for a bass headstock.
I think it would still look neat without the cutout or with a much smaller one.

Quickly putting out the feelers on this one: anyone interested in a Marshall Class 5 Combo?

It’s a 1 piece, light weight swamp ash. All nitro cellulose. Pretty exciting!

Classy... Needs a b-bender, obvs... 😂

Really nice!
What pickguard and fingerboard are you going for? Maple neck? Hardware? -
• #7038
Maple neck. Stainless medium jumbo frets.
I reckon I might go for the Suhr Woodshed pickups...Suhr stuff sounds fantastic and they’re not silly money.

Who’s doing that for you? Looks great!
Mine’s being done at the moment by Rexter Guitars. Shell Pink nitro for me.

That looks awesome - that's exactly the right sunburst for a Telecaster in my mind - look forward to seeing it finished.
I've lost track of the thread - did you paint it yourself?
-
• #7041
Nah it’s from MJT. They’re super nice.
-
• #7042
Aah nice - will it be reliced?
-
• #7043
Still after a v cheap steel string dreadnought if anyone's got one flapping about the place?
-
• #7044
Nope - what they describe as closet clean. So a little checking and that’s it. I’m a bit mixed on relicing - some look great but they can get a bit cookie cutter. Besides I’m enough of a klutz it’s going to get dinged up soon enough.

Exciting guitar. The grain on it is really characterful. Keep the photos coming!

Pretty enough for gold hardware I'd reckon!
I've fallen for the original Tele snakehead headstock... this custom shop one is incredible.

That snake head is dead cool - I'll be shooting to stain to that sort of colour. I was really close to going for gold hardware, but you need the gold frets to match and I wanted stainless. I reckon all nickel hardware and a bakelite pickguard. I'll lightly age the nickel with some vinegar just to take the shine back a bit.
The neck has some nice flame, that'll be bling enough for me!

I hate the snakeheadstock, much prefer the standard Tele headstock, which is strange because I detested it as a teen... Which is why I went nuts about the Tele Deluxe...

Me too, which I how I ended up mainly playing Strats, and now I much prefer the Tele overall aesthetically.

I was all set to put a Tele Deluxe neck on the one I’m building, because I love the chunky CBS headstock on a Tele. Until I realised it’s basically a re-branded strat neck, and the deluxe guitars have strat neck pockets.
Finding some weird stuff in my mate’s Jaguar: Local music shop had made a proper hash of fitting a new nut. It was way too high, not even cut to the right width and they hadn’t sanded off the tab underneath even tho there was no slot for it, so the bridge was teetering like a see saw with clear gaps under each end.
Pisses me off the they have audacity to take people’s money for such shitty work.
Anyway, spend some time sanding and shaping so we should be good now. Will string it up and try before committing to glue.
Another weird thing is the neck seems to been shimmed from the factory, but in the opposite direction you’re supposed to for these guitars. This shim wound actually decreases any backward neck angle and decrease the already minimal downward pressure on the bridge. Debating whether to leave it and add thicker shim on the body side or try and move it....
On the upside, the neck is dead straight so no worries there. Confident we’ll get it playing nicely.
