  • Think Hampsted Heath and tow paths.

Marathons would be fine unless you're cornering at speed.

  • Did you find them a bit dead?

Having a look on CRC and there seem to be quite a few options like these:
schwalbe-hurricane (obvs massive) or these: Schwalbe g one

TBH I'm getting way ahead of myself. First is to shortlist a few bikes to see what gets vetoed.

EDIT: pretty sure these are the tyres my OH used to have
    https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/continental-travel-contact-wire-road-tyre/rp-prod83063
Continental Travel Contact Wire Road Tyre

pretty much slick in the middle with grip on the edges.

  • Did you find them a bit dead?

TBH, the only bike I've ever really understood that concept on is my 853 Sunday-best bike. On a day-to-day bike, which is primarily for commuting, I've generally found that there are so many other things contributing to the "ride" that one tyre being a bit more supple being another is not that big a deal.

That being said, I've only ever ridden standard Marathons, not the Marathon Plus. In more than 10 years of commuting I've had 2 punctures, both from things that would have stood a fair chance of going through a car tyre.

  • Marathons would be fine, or the marathon cross for a bit more side tread, the marathon supremes are miles better tyres but would be kind of wasted on a budget city bike with some towpath action, and they're like £65 each RRP.

  • Horses for courses I guess. I always found tyres made a difference to my enjoyment. 32c Bonntragers Hardcases (I think) have been my favourite for the city. Or possibly 25c refuse on my fast bike.

  • Schwalbe X-One Speed

  • I'm also trying to find something that basically does what you've requested. The options basically seem to be: touring/commuting tyre with a bit of tread (e.g., Marathon), CX tyre (e.g., CX comp), or MTB tyre with solid central tread (e.g., Landcruiser). The CX option seems to be lightest, although the touring tyre might give the lowest rolling resistance on road, since it's closest to a slick.

  • Hi all!

Where can I get t-shirts printed (with our new Champagne logos) in central London this week?

    Need to look decent.

    Thanks!

  • Clearing out our office I've come across a Cat 6a cable with a single rj45 plug at one end and the other splits off into 4 individual rj45 plugs (1x blue, 1x orange, 1x brown, 1x green). I assume because of the colouring of the plugs they correspond to each pair of wires within the cable.

A cursory Google didn't shed any light on what this is/does probably because I have no idea what exactly to search for, can anyone sate my curiosity please?

  • What is causing this sqeaking sound from my Chris King hub?

Hubs have just returned from pro service..

  • Slightly warped disc rubbing the pads once per rotation?

  • lol plz jesper.. ;)

Nah its not disc rub or tire rub. To me it sounds like one of the two rubber seals / O-rings on the axle.

Hoping someone has experienced something similar, or has a good guess

  • Whatever it is the solution is likely the same, return it to the shop for them to look at or strip it down as far as your skills/tools allow and put it back together again.

  • Thanks, did try this at a spectrum of different tensions within reason, and it helped a tiny bit when loosening it (but with more slop than i can live with) but the noise started again shortly after.

  • Will a pre-2015 Campag 11 speed front mech work with 10 speed shifters?

  • So. will a BB86 GXP fit in a standard press fit road shell (obviously with a GXP crankset)? may be getting my diameters/widths mixed up! so would the same frame take a 'normal' 68mm BB?

  • i have a system which displays 2 August 2019 14:36:57 but stores the underlying value as 1565607390550. Is this 13 character string/number proprietory or is there a standard way (ideally in excel) to convert? I want to go from the string to the date/time.

  • Does anyone know where the nearest decent coffee place is to Mile End station please?

Seems to be a bit of a third wave coffee free zone from what I can see but I'm new here.

  • Bow Road has a good coffee stall.

But yeah I’m not aware of an obvious sit down place.

  • If it's a Unix timestamp it looks a bit screwed up. I'd have thought it should maybe be
1565607390.550 (stamp in milliseconds so divide by 1,000) but that returns 12/08/2019 10:56:31 so not quite right.

    The Excel formula is normally

    =A1/86400+25569

    with A1 being your timestamp

  • Does anyone know a way (short of measuring) that I can find the 'travel' (probably the wrong word) of a Shimano shifter? The distance (or better angle) at the end of this movement is what I'm after.

I'm trying to find a set of flared bars that will give me a setup than when shifting, the lever ideally never goes below vertical towards the stem if that makes sense.

  • That's much closer though. I've been struggling to convert using that formula.
    Shown Date = 13 Aug 12:36
    Unix = 1565607390550

    Doing the Unix / 1000 / 86400 + 25569 also gives me 12 Aug 10:56

So, just over a day out.
