• I've moved out of my flat in Tooting, am now in Surbiton/Tolworth - anyone got some tips on the best way of riding in to Holborn/Chancery Lane?

I am thinking of using this new 'Cut' greenway to get from New Malden > Motspur Park and from there getting into the City - not sure what is best, along the Kingston road to either rejoin my previous commute on CS7 at Colliers Wood or cut across Clapham Common and then Vauxhall/Westminster Bridge over the river.

Previously when riding that way from work I'd go along the river to Richmond Park then through Kingston. That looks to be a tad longer but might ultimately be more pleasant.

I'm trying to get a good balance of avoiding horrific roads/traffic and not adding too much extra time to my now longer commute... any input those in the know welcome!

  • Been doing the queen of the Suburbs to City via CS7 for ages, Richmond park has benefits but I find the Putney/Fulham bits worse than Tooting and CS7 is quicker.

Use the new Mew Malden - Raynes Park (? not Motspur), equal on time to heading via the A3/Krispie Kreme but continuous and will chill you right out.

In short, bike lane through Green Lane Rec from Surbiton to New Malden, Elm road (level crossing but who cares if held up), right onto the cut, cross New Malden High St, new bike lane all the way to Raynes Park, get off in front of the station and just walk through the tunnel, remount, ride up Kingston road, at the end go straight on up the bike path behind Wimbledon Chase Primary then out onto Kingston Road which becomes CS7 once at Colliers wood 3 mins later.

Can add a map if required.

  • I would agree with this. I used to go through Putney / Fulham and CS7 is faster. I don't mind Tooting really - Putney was probably slightly worse, but didn't go on as long.

  • Useful guide, I've plotted it out as this..

Will give it a try soon - parliament is really grating at the moment and Putney will be crap again when the school hols are over.

  • Hey, this is pretty much exactly what I've been doing and will likely settle on most of the time. I quite often go via RP for a couple of laps a few times a week but outside of that, this is probably the best option.
