    It's gravel, but I believe it's pretty large gravel at points. I'm more excited about the offroad stuff, so i'd rather sacrifice a bit of speed on road for making the offroad bits more enjoyable I think.
    Anyway, the question is now irrelevant because it turns out I have some g-one bites on the way, so I am spared having to make a choice. Which will hopefully be a decent compromise. I've used g-one speed 30s on my audax bike for ages and they've (mostly) stood up to a lot of offroad stuff.

  • I did it on 700x35 tubed Hutchinson Overide (semi slick kind of things), it was mostly fine (okay, it wasn't the most confidence-inducing setup at times). I had two pinch flats and and don't think I had to walk because of terrain (though I had to because of gradient+terrain at times). We had good weather throughout though so there's that.

    I think wide slicks like WTB Horizon would be an ideal compromise, or something with a light thread (and perhaps slick central section) such as GKs.
