Mentioned it in the new framebuilder thread but should really discuss it in here, I’m having doubts on my planned paint job on my new frame.
I got it printers the other day then realised my fillets weren’t as smooth as I though do have been working on them a bit but it’s kinda struck me that this striving for perfection doesn’t really become me.
I was going to brush paint the frame with a single colour of enamel paint but now I’m thinking that might be a bit boring. I’ve bought the paint so might use it as a base but then do a splatter or drop effect over the top.
I like this style where you apply paint and let it run,
Or maybe a more traditional splatter job, the enamel paint I already have is somewhat close to the base colour of this,
Im not going to use the paint to cover up poor workmanship on the fillets though, I’ve got them looking a lot (IMO) better.
And the whole thing,

I will (hopefully) be there as part of a trio of Scottish builders on a stand in the main hall.
For me and one of the others it’ll be our first time, our third guy was there last year as a ‘new framebuilder’.

Wow that's big news! Well done for taking that step.

I'd vote for a splatter paint affect, I don't think the dribble thing will look very good with lugs personally.
regarding bespoked, is it just for a bit of fun to show off what you're making or are you looking to start out a business?

Well, I definitely hope to make a career in framebuilding. This is a couple of years before I imagined I’d be doing Bespoked but the opportunity arose so I thought why not!

Do you have any plans on what you might take yet?

I think we can each fit 2 bikes or a bike plus a frame so I'd like one of mine to be a 20" minivelo cycletruck kinda thing. I'll build it as a replacement for the Puch folder I have as I really like it for commuting but its pretty rickety and flexes like heck. The other one I'd like to be a bike that I've not built for myself. I have a mate who I think is interested in having me build him a frame so that'd be my first 'customer'.

I’d thought I’d need to let the base colour cure and sand/polish it back before the next step in the paint but to be honest, I’m pretty happy with how it’s looking with just a second coat on there.
I think sanding and polishing the base might just be an awful lot of work for very little improvement in the final result so I’m going to move on to splatter painting today.

I may have gotten a little impatient, the paint is still quite soft...

Looks awesome! I’d put some more splatters on there in a second colour. Though that could be getting carried away

Looks great, well done!

I’d bought a pot of aqua blue that I was going to do splatters with but I liked it with just the orange.

looks so good, nice one
Even half finished it’s the nicest bike I’ve owned/ridden. Honestly felt like I’d geared down when infact it’s got a slightly bigger gear than I’d normally ride on it.
