The Newspeak demonisation of the tag "Liberal" has been growing in the US with the rise and rise of right wing Neo Con extremism over the last 3-4 decades.
I find it a very useful indicator for whether I am talking to someone who has formed views through their own knowledge of British culture and politics, or someone who has picked up views via social media.
