  • As a colour ref, I made these from western red cedar finished in Osmo UV. Quite red (good), but a bit more glossy than I’d like. I think because you don’t bother wiping off the excess - like when finishing furniture - it builds up a more satin / gloss layer. Rain beads right off though.

    If I did it again, I’d obvs go for LOOK cladding. Got the cedar form Southgate Timber if you do go down the non-branded route though.

    Yes, I now need to paint the wall.

  • I'm planning on building some venetian fencing including a gate and was looking at red cedar. How have you finished the screw tops? filler?

    How durable is larch out of interest?

    Also do you know much about cladding? Can I do hidden fixings with regular T&G or do I need the special hidden fix variety?
