  • Is the Stavanger yours? Please could you give me the dimensions of the rasket? At base and top...,

  • These are 2.0 inch but have been awesome for usage such as you describe...

    And £10 each.

  • My friend’s.
    300 mm
    360 mm
    150 mm
It’s pretty much same at the base as on top. My friend had to modify it a little to use with drop bar shifters.

  • Well I’m now the proud owner of a bottom of the range gt legacy. Was only £50 and was a blast on the ride home.
Everything apart from the frame will be going in the skip so I’m in the market for a 1x7 drivetrain(chainset, bb, rear mech and shifter). Might replace wheels but will get them trued and hope for the best.

  • What exactly will be going in the skip? Asking for a friend...

  • Welded triple chainset, long plastic chainguard, generic front mech, shimano 3x7 gripshift, kickstand(knackered). There’s a rear rack that might be of use to someone as well as some ok mudguards. Will take pics of what I’m gonna be rid of tomorrow.

  • Want me to keep an eye out? Or are you after relatively high end 1x7 parts? I have a couple 7-speed parts but planned to rebuild the Specialized with them to sell, over a week lots of bikes end up at the scrapyard so I can keep an eye out for useful 7S parts that I can hawk you for a low price. MTB or Road setup? Rapid fires, thumb shifters? Wheels are a pain to post.

  • If you’ve got a good steady supply of 7sp d appreciate an eye out!

No need for high end, happy with lx-ish quality. Def rather do a mtb setup than road. Rapid fire ideally. Comfortable working on older shimano but never done a 1x setup before so unsure where to start with chainset/bb..

  • I’ll keep an eye out. If you’re in a rush don’t wait for me. It’s hit and miss what gets thrown away. A few weeks ago the pile was huge, this week so far only one and a half bikes.

  • Def no rush, very much a slow burn project. Tempted by some period correct dh bars

  • Why not just get some used 10 speed stuff? 7 speed 1x may be a pita in terms of chain drop. are you planning on running a keeper of some sort? I ran 1 x 6, then 7 then 8 and finally 10. Even without a clutch mech, and using a badly worn NW, haven’t dropped the chain since building. Dropped chain regularly on the other setups. That and wider range of gears, better shift all adds up.

  • The thinking being it’s a £50 bike I’d rather not spend out on new wheels for to do a 10sp setup.
At the budget end I can try 1x7 out just by swapping chainset and keeping the ugly brick rear mech. At least this way I can be sure I’m into the bike before splashing out.
If it turns out I really like it I might consider a better setup. I’m completely open to a chain keeper if needs be.

  • Fair play, I guess that’s how I ended up 10 speed... But also on the 4th frame, 4th (5th maybe?) set of wheels etc for the project. It’s been quite an evolution. All i wanted was a 1x beater.

  • The cheap 1x guide/tensioner/bashguard things that attach on the bottom bracket are barely £20 on ebay. Had I not got the 2x ones off CRC dead cheap a few weeks I’d have bought one for the mtb.

  • All i wanted was a 1x beater.

  • Cool but a bit confused

  • Update to my old (unknown age/origin, but canti mounts, and 1 1/8th threaded headset?!) mountain bike - 3x8 friction shifters are awesome, swept bars are awesome, 2 inch semi-slick tyres are so comfortable, finally matching silver components are so satisfying. Cruising in functional comfort.

  • Looks great, but for (my) comfort would tilt handlebars back/down a little.
