You might be right, but I think it’s more the roughness of the finish than the chunkiness so hopefully it will be better when it’s smoothed out a bit with wear.
I feared the same so I was careful to remove as little as possible. The engraving was quite shallow and I stopped before the lowest couple of spots.

Strap looks really chunky for the watch, but I’m used to much thinner leather for smaller dress watches. I like your de-engraving. Hopefully you didn’t take off too much metal.
