Race Kings in 27.5*2 as gravel/all round tyres, anything I should be looking out for?
Seem cheap and quick, I enjoyed them in 29" but didn't ride them a huge amount.
Looking for something like the wtb resolute but making more use of the space I have than a 42c would -

Crosspost from the Dads/ Mums thread: Any recommendations for tyres for a kids bike, size 24" (507)? Currently mini-m has some almost worn-out knobblies fitted and I think they're really hard work on the road. We don't get out cycling a lot so stamina levels aren't high, but I'd like to do some more exploring and build up the miles gradually. I need something that rolls fast on the road, but grips enough for towpath use and has enough volume to be comfy. We won't do any mudplugging in the near future. I'm torn between an MTB tyre with a smooth central strip (like the Schwalbe Landcruiser or Michelin Country J Tyre), which are tough, but heavy; or a CX tyre like the Schwalbe CX Comp or Continental Double Fighter, which are lighter but potentially not as robust.

When did this new incorrect designation for 584 tires start? 650B no longer cool enough for the gravel crowd?
-
• #6481
Why incorrect? is it not the ERTRO system designation?
-
• #6482
584 is correct, yes.

Ah, think I misread the conversation above, I understand your point now haha sorry!

Is this directed at me? I went with 27.5 as they're mtb tyres

Call me obtuse.

27.5" is roughly accurate for the outer diameter of the tyre. It's 26" that's wrong (more like 26.5")
-
• #6487
“roughly accurate”
Applies to seatposts too et cetera? -

yawn

Just saying that 27.5 isn’t a step forward, more like muddying the waters. Why not use an a pre-existing accurate designation?
-
• #6490
Because we were already using 26" and 29", and ETRTO designations are overly-accurate and unmemorable for normal people. But you probably know that.

Ah well, that’s me forever tilting at windmills.

Looking forward to fitting these!

I’d definitely go with the latter options. 32-35mm tyres will provide plenty grip and comfort on towpaths.
You can’t do a lot of skidding on them though, so if that’s a must get the tractor ones -

Help please: having problems with the little blob/dimple on sidewalls of tire next to the valve after fitting new tires. Results in multiple pinch flats next to valve. I’ve tried the trick of pushing the valve in and wiggling around before/during pumping up but no luck. The tires are 35mm gravel king SKs and rims are alexrims df23 (21.6mm outer width/15.7 inner). Have tried 2 different types of inner tube. Is it possible that the rims are just too narrow for the thickness of the bead, forcing the valve to pinch? I realise this is a stupid problem but I’m running out of ideas here...

pics please

I can try to get a pic but I don’t think it will show much. The sidewall dimples in a tiny bit next to the valve but I don’t think you’ll be able to see anything in a photo
-
• #6497
I don't understand why the dimple would be there unless it was underinflated.
Try it with different tire/rim combos. -

This was the second ever post in this thread:
speaking of tyres, anyone have the problem of when putting on new tyres you get the annoying bloody lump round the valve that is a general pain in the arse to get rid of? Any solutions other than stressing, sweating, swearing for an hour??
The suggestion then was also to wiggle the valve and push it up before inflating.
Pressure is at max reccommended.

For skinny rims mount one side of the tire. Now put the valve in and the inner inside the tire, carefully isn't folding or twisting. Now mount the other side of the tire, starting from the valve. Push the valve in to give some room to the tire beads.
You can also put a strap or just put your weight in the tire at the valve so it doesn't jump out of the rims during inflation -

Thanks for the tip, I’ll give this a try
They are DCR Wheels 24/30 disc very happy with them so far.
