The thinking being it’s a £50 bike I’d rather not spend out on new wheels for to do a 10sp setup.
At the budget end I can try 1x7 out just by swapping chainset and keeping the ugly brick rear mech. At least this way I can be sure I’m into the bike before splashing out.
If it turns out I really like it I might consider a better setup. I’m completely open to a chain keeper if needs be.
Fair play, I guess that’s how I ended up 10 speed... But also on the 4th frame, 4th (5th maybe?) set of wheels etc for the project. It’s been quite an evolution. All i wanted was a 1x beater.
The cheap 1x guide/tensioner/bashguard things that attach on the bottom bracket are barely £20 on ebay. Had I not got the 2x ones off CRC dead cheap a few weeks I’d have bought one for the mtb.
