Electric bikes

  • First time a specialized bike has grabbed my attention...well done.

  • Never mind that. The top of the range is $17. $17 fucking K!!

  • Not quite sure i see the point in electric road bikes, 16mph limit for a hybrid or cargo bike works ok but on a road bike unless you live on the side of an alp its not gong to help much?

  • the assist is the point, for the physically incapable to enjoy cycling where they would drive or not go instead

I am physically capable but I still want one, they need to hurry up and trickle down/have better design.

  • I just want an Alfine + Gates Di2 Steps 6100 commuter that does not look like a pensioner mobile.

  • Was at the uk bike show last year and rode a bunch of decent mid drive city/hybrid bikes back to back. Me and a mate both preferred the slightly more relaxed geo hybrids to the racer stuff, were faster in the corners and more predictable at the limit of grip.
On our eBullitt it has an e8000 mid drive which is limited to 16 mph and honestly most of the time you are wanting to ride beyond that speed limiter and its a cargo bike, a regular road bike that cuts out at 16mph is just going to be frustrating unless there are some mad hills.
Agree that e bikes don't have to look like something from the 50s hovis advert though

  • Di2 and gates but Bosch.

  • On our eBullitt

can I pls have a go?

  • I’m noticing a huge increase in e bikes around Marple, mainly because I keep thinking ‘why can’t I catch the heavily built elderly person up the road’. Yesterday I drove into town which I never normally do and 3 people in normal clothes on e bikes kept up easily with the car on a hilly, moderate traffic route. I’d say if that specialised wasn’t £7k I’d be all over one for commuting

  • My brother was thinking of getting an ebike but as we all can agree they look a bit meh - so after some googling I found this - https://www.sigmasports.com/item/Bianchi/Aria-E-Road-Ultegra-Disc-Electric-Road-Bike-2019/JTMK?co=GBR&cu=GBP&glCountry=GB&id=924890&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=Cj0KCQjwjrvpBRC0ARIsAFrFuV-1yn3KTu1DSSofflE8_ONZ_OMJW3OM9uDfgOV9lf93j2rTddy7PJQaAjVsEALw_wcB which we think looks pretty cool...
to be honest I’d never given much thought to ebikes but it got me thinking about how it would be awesome to cover greater distances quicker on a commuter machine - if cycling to town from Tunbridge Wells currently takes me 2hrs40 each way I’d love to be able to get this down to 1hr30 (I know that means doing about 40km/hr) whilst still having to put some work in... 🤔🤷‍♂️

  • R&M Roadster

Yes! We have one of these at our shops it's an absolute blast!

  • I am coming to an conclusion that EBULLITT is bit of an overkill for me .. kinda have shortlisted two bikes

    Benno eScout
    Riese & Muller Multicharger

Anyone here has any experience with either of those?

  • No but I have a Riese & Muller Tinker and the build quality is exceptional...

  • I looked at that very seriously BUT I need it to be a little 'heavy duty' for child seat etc.

Did you buy from Supercharged in SE1?

And what would you say about battery (life) ?

  • I bought mine from Electric Bike Sales; they had a better price at time of purchase...

Battery life is good. I went for the 500Wh battery and can easily get 40 miles on top whack and over 120 on eco / tour.

  • Do you know who makes the batteries for them? Trying to build an idea of who's who and what battery life cycles are like since e-bikes are becoming more prominent.

What's diagnostics like on them as well? Take it in to store I take it?

  • It's Bosch branded but I can see if it's sub branded anywhere...

Diagnostics are non-existent; the computer just shows battery charge level (5 pips), estimated range, mode and top speed.

  • Ah, if it's Bosch, the battery is Samsung according to last training session I went to. Good quality stuff and their life cycles are very consistent with minimal deterioration.

Diagnostics is a store thing unlike Shimano. Essentially needs an encryption fob to get access to the program, which is magic for diagnosing issues. It was honestly far more than I imagined in terms of metrics and fault finding. Car level stuff.

  • That's why i haven't modded mine to remove the speed restriction - i figure, even with the removable mods, it would be super easy to tell that i'd be using something and it would void the warranty.

My only frustration with the bike (which is so fun to ride) is the speed limit which i'm always hitting.

  • The diagnostic can identify if you’ve fucked with it.

@amey the multicharger is excellent all round and ride is great - for utility you’ll want the vario/belt drive as you don’t / can’t get a centre stand on the derailleur models.

  • What would be a good option for converting a Marin pine mountain (2016) to electric?

  • for utility you’ll want the vario/belt drive as you don’t / can’t get a centre stand on the derailleur models.

that sucks :((( I guess standard chain and alfine/nexus 8 should be fine .. now reading into Green Commute Initiative
