@jaw player protection is a must but also delicate balance between athletes pushing themselves above and beyond their limits to achieve greater things which wows the spectators and remaining safe. In the past clubs have clearly foprced players to play through pain that has health implications for the player in later life.

I’d love to agree with you, in particular on the Son point.
If he wouldn’t have played or didn’t win the Asian games he’d have lost two years of his contract due to military service. Skipping national games wasn’t an option, neither was Spurs resting him due to the Kane injury.
Player protection can’t be a bad thing in general.
