Is Root a Captain?
I mean, I realise Joe Root has been appointed the England Captain,
but, just because he is our best batsman, it doesn't mean he is a 'captain'.
The ECB Central Contract has meant Root has not trudged round the County circuit
gaining experience of captaincy, but also has not been exposed to good County captaincy.
I'm quick to blame the English bowlers for a lack of guile in dismissing tailenders,
but, I wonder if a lack of guilefull captaincy is a contributing factor.
Still 400 in a day has been done before,
and, Roy could be the guy to set a solid and quick platform.

Butler did ok in the West Indies tests but I don't think he can be played as a specialist batsman in current form. I hope he proves me wrong though.
