I’d love to agree with you, in particular on the Son point.
If he wouldn’t have played or didn’t win the Asian games he’d have lost two years of his contract due to military service. Skipping national games wasn’t an option, neither was Spurs resting him due to the Kane injury.
Player protection can’t be a bad thing in general.

I think players should be free to decide if they want to play or travel. Player power at the top level is at an all time high. If they don't want to play because they feel tired they don't have to and they can always feign injury. If Harry Kane felt he was being forced back to early by Spurs after every ankle injury he has had he would just say he wanted to leave the club. Situation actually is that Kane rushes himself back too early. Son is free to decide if he wants to represent Korea or play for a club closer to home.
