I always read that as an edited post, but maybe this time it means STFU.

Nah I put out an opinion about it and then decided the World isn't ready for my opinions.

Suppose it’s not news so doesn’t go there, and isn’t actually anti so not there either. But I’m shocked there is an article of sorts about bikes and about Halfords and it isn’t slamming them. What’s more shocking is the comments aren’t anti-cyclist.

It's a terrible bike, I have to send some back because the frame and/or fork isn't aligned.
A Carrera would be a much better choice (like the Carrera Axis).

Weird that people love it/Halfords. I only buy from Halfords when parts have been pricematched. Sod buying their builds.

The guy was able to get £120 from the Job Centre for a new bike so he went to local Halfords and found one that allowed him to get to work, and even take a trip down to Droitwich along the canal for a food festival. Definitely not a bike any on here would buy but seems he got a bike that fulfills his needs and perhaps avoided some of the build issues @edscoble mentioned. Think we forget sometimes that bike shaped object/lowest common denominator bikes do sometimes fill a need and get more people cycling, which can only be good. Only downside is if the bikes break/ crap parts create more landfill longer term.

The biggest advantage is that the bike will be under warranty, and the usual six weeks check too.
Having said that, I recommend people the B'Twin Riverside as it's a better bike especially as it's easier to service and replace.

I’m in the market for a 90’s 700c hybrid. Something by an older mtb brand, am aware of the Marin Sausalito and trek multitrack.
What else should I be searching for? Something with above bso spec parts would be nice if many were made?
If anyone has one for sale that’d suit me at 5’9 that’d be rad.
Will just be for shopping and general fucking around on. -

I might sell this (frame and fork, choice of 2x seat post, u brake) if I don't built it up in next 2 weeks despite really liking it. GT something

Also whilst i'm here, looking for some 26" tyres. 2.2inch ish. Something that won't be too slow around town but will suffice off road. Any suggestions? Must be cheap.

Aha! My specialist subject.
Look for hybrid frames. Touring frames tend to be a bit too overbuilt.
My Koga Miyata kicks ass.
Kuwahara Pacer is quadruple butted radness.
Marin made loads of hybrids.
Kona Dew + similar.
Bridgestone made some lovely frames but rare now.
Cannondale touring frames are great.
There’s a rad Schwinn Crisscross on eBay, worth it for the name alone. When you get one, get decent Shimano v brakes and nice coolstop pads. This is a combo to make you very happy. And shit on disc brakes, mostly.

Nice, that’s exactly the reply I’m after. There’s a sausalito on eBay at the mo but tempted to hold out for something a little tastier. I’d like to have clearance for gravelkings or similar for canal and forest path fun. Depending on what is saveable or not I might go 1x or leave as is.
Won’t be running mudguards, dynamo or rear rack as got an lht for proper touring/wet use.@T0mg that gt looks great but I’d prob hold out for original paint and no ubrake...

Yeah don’t blame you. U brakes can piss off
