Ritchey Venturemax comp, or for less flare, salsa cowbells, whatever you get, go wide, as wide as you can get.

I have salsa cowbell and love them, my road bike had the selcoff ones, good because cheap but the shape is no where as nice, I’ll sell them if you fancy as I’m going to get more cowbells

As mentioned, the Cowchipper is the perfect blend between road and off road drop handlebar.
Alternately the Cowbell have less flare if you wish for a little more road-focus one (this is what I use for off road touring and road).

I think there should be a different catalogues, there's flared drop and there's monstercross drop.

Yeah.
Do they work? -
• #8764
These do actually work well, I’d buy shimano probably but wouldn’t change them out from Clark’s tbh

Do they work?
Legit work 100%, it's on the MTB and fitted to numerous customer bike, take Shimano part, mineral oil, easy bleed etc.

What's the wheelset of choice for around 300ish, not that taken by Hunt wheels. Would I be moron to spunk £600 on Mavic AllRoad Pro Road Discs?

£400 gets you hope rs4 or pro 4 on hope 20five rims, nice wheels.
Or go for this...
Hope hubs custom built onto - https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/rims-tape/24-dt-swiss-r500-db-700c-622-cross-road-disc-rim-black/

I love the Ritchey Evo Max compact bar, that I have on my commuter.
It's not as extreme flair, but the tops are flattened and swept back a little, which I find really nice. -

Read a great review of the pro4 20five on singletrack lastnight, so looks like a winner, thanks

Didn't get on with the Love Mud Bomber and now I am riding the Selcof Sterrato bars. Compared to the compact drops I had before they added a bit more control on rocky descends and more room for a handle bar roll. I can now strap on my massive 3.5 season sleeping bag and still have enough space to comfortably use every possible hand position.
Can someone explain the order of bestness from cheap and cheerful to Dura ace equivalent in hydro braking for Shimano?
