I think ignorance helped! I knew there was nothing broken so I thought it was just a bit of bruising and swelling. Also, on the bike, it was in a comfortable position, and putting on a cycling jersey was easier than normal clothes. Finally a quick chat with Doug Migden, an A + E doctor, reassured me there was nothing major likely to be wrong
So it appears that I have a separated shoulder, from my fall on day 1. Definite lump above the AC joint on that side, and the bruising is coming out now, a long yellow one at least a foot long wrapped over the top of my shoulder.
It didn't bother me when I was riding but in real life it is a little bit painful, and putting a T shirt on is a lot more challenging than cycling jersey with zip. Cycling 300km per day was a great anaesthetic!
One thing to explore while I'm getting it fixed is to what extent it might have been behind my neck probs.
