Mk5 or 6 golf or derivative of? Yes its your master, sachs make a good one for about £35 i might even have a spare new one! (car was totalled by a bin lorry before i had chance to fix it).
They dont need a lot of tools to change but wpuld aughesy taking drivers seat out and centre console so you can flex the carpet back more eaislw. There's also a clip that usually breaks, get a new one from vag/tps before you start and don't even bother trying to save the old one, will save you an hour and at least 50ml of blood.
Also bleeding, vacuum bleeding is only way on those to get a good pedal without drinking the earth's entire supply of dot fluid and your patience
