  • Great days cricket. Despite coming out second best the aussies bowled well., especially Pattinson.

Top stuff from Burns, he's taken a bit of time to get into the groove in tests, hope Denly is given the same time

  • Absolutely cracking days cricket, managed to pick up bits and pieces throughout the day, beautifully poised. Root had just gone when I landed and by the time I got home they'd just got the ball changed. So happy for Burns, doing his best Cookie impression! Just on the train up to Derby can't wait to get to edgbaston tomorrow! Been a long old day.

  • I foolishly signed up for the mailing list for The Hundred, the new cricket format starting next year. Wasn’t one of the reasons for the 100 ball format that it goes on for less time? Well guess what, to excite us even more they are proud to announce that there will be The Timeout, because American sports are the best.

  • This is the shittest thing ever.

  • The Hundred truly is a cricket-based 'entertainment' for people who can't stand cricket.

  • Hmm,
hopes of substantial 1st innings lead evaporating with any overnight moisture.
Lyon ominously bowling himself into form for the 4th innings.

  • Rory Burns has the (slight) chance to emulate a certain renowned, retired Yorkshire Test batsman,
    and,
bat on all five days of a test match.

  • That leave from Moeen was awful, Bairstow's dismissal too. Lovely slog sweep from Woakesy, mind

  • Good morning for Aus stopped Eng really building on yesterday and amessing a commanding score. Really interestingly poised now bc Eng have to bat fourth and Lyons is looking handy

  • Good to see the tail wagging (again).
Fine shots from Broad against spin.

  • "he's got the saaandpaper in his pants, he's got the saaandpaper in his pants..."

    Cheaty bastard

  • This is a lovely test match, 3 runs an over, bowlers and batters well matched, England nudging ahead over 2 or 3 hours of play...

@skydancer I wouldn't put you down as a Murdoch funding Sky subscriber! Or are you in the pub?

  • Right. No sky sub. I'm streaming from smartcric. Com
Mobile and tablets only. Projecting stream from phone to monitor.

  • I found some link on HUKD where you can get a week Sports pass from NowTV for 4 quid; perfect for each week and I can Chromecast it

  • Broadly! Another umpiring howler

  • Bad shot by Warner or devilish ball from Broad?

  • I wonder if Boycott has encountered that opinionated elderly retired Test batsman,
who was earlier decrying Stokes for not bowling enough 'wigged-taking deliveries'?

  • Stokesy you ripper

  • Tough day today. Ball doing absolutely nothing.

  • Smith finally gone but so’s the test...

  • Yes too late.
A Draw may be what to focus on.

  • Yup, a draw is the best outcome we can hope for now, I think. The ball’s not doing much, so Aussies will try for a lead of about 350 and then put us in for the last 40 minutes today. Could be an interesting day’s play tomorrow.

  • Nasser just showed the score averages on this pitch for the last 10 years. Day 4= 40. Day 5= 20. Being pessimistic but can see us struggling tomorrow if Lyon plays well.

  • Curious captaining by Paine.
His bowlers would be better employed bowling 8-10 hostile overs at Engs fielding-tired openers.
[Did anyone see where 'Fortress Edgbaston' disappeared to?]

  • Yes late declaration.

Going to be a tense few overs
