I do think the UK is well into the process of losing some of its key vocab differences from American English, approx in this order:
- lorry -> truck ages ago
- sweets -> candy
- aeroplane -> airplane has just about completed I think
- shop -> store nearly there
- toilet -> bathroom seems to be well on the way
- vacation starting to creep in

don’t mind most of those, but tow us into the Atlantic and pull out the plug when ‘then’ replaces ‘than’.
