Some consistent top 10 finishers are ending up DNF because of this rule.
Can't complain myself as it's earned me a few places but I'm sure I'd be as pissed if I punctured -
• #7953
1 bike and a spare pair of wheels? I mean. That seems fair.
Pit crew and bike washing etc and so on. Bit much. -
• #7954
How about...just don’t puncture?
Troll face
But yeah no extra bike is a bit odd Given the minimal amount of people it would affect - not like half the field turned up with two bikes, right?
Or was I doing it wrong?
-
• #7955
Looking at the results there was over 100 riding in the race, that's a good turn out
-

Who washes a bike at a summer cross?
My two cheap alloy canti bikes cost less combined than the carbon bling disc bikes many people are racing.
-
• #7957
Yeah, I have to take back that comment about the main race, that is a decent turn out.
-
• #7958
It surprised me, the longish course did a good job of spreading everyone out
-
• #7959
Is anyone on here racing for lfgss, I have a small skinsuit that I'll happily pass on now I'm racing for Bristol CX
-
• #7960
There have been muddy summer cross races. I wouldn't know though, I'm highly unlikely to have been there....
I like the idea of one bike and spare wheels. It feels "right". -
• #7961
I also told someone in an LFGSS to do a skid and they obliged which was rather good of them.
I aim to please

I have to disagree. Pits with full bike changes are a fundamental part of 'cross and a key rule difference between it and MTB racing
-
• #7964
Yeah I'd have to get the spanner out for a rear puncture, rather just switch bikes
-
• #7965
As I'm not at the pointy end of races, it doesn't matter to me (ultimately, I'd benefit more from being able to corner faster and being fitter).
But. Didn't Yorkshire cyclocross or someone make their races one bike to minimise water wastage/pit waste?I like that aspect of it.

If you are planning on winning races, yeah. Or are being paid to race.
If you aren’t going to bother the top ten at a local race the trick is to build a bike that can survive 50 mins of hell when it needs to.
Two bikes requires all sorts of different commitments that a lot of local league racers CBA or can’t meet.
-
• #7967
I'm pretty sure that Yorkshire doesn't have a problem with lack of water but that is a nice idea.
@Howard Most league racers seem to drive so as I said above, 2 cheap bikes makes a lot more sense than one expensive one. If someone CBA, that's their prerogative but is a race after all and the leagues do lead into National Trophies and World Cups.

Yah and one cheap bike makes more sense than two cheap bikes if you aren’t going to bother the top ten :)
We always rode or trained it to races so two bikes was kinda out for us. A lot of folks drive this is true. Majority? Not sure, would be interesting to know. Imagine it’s way more popular at regional / national than local league.

I'm just jealous of the dads who can rope in their kids to be bike cleaners/domestiques/wheel givers.

Plus having a big car or van to carry everything in
-
• #7971
My dad is 62 and we still pit for each other. Good day out!

I think people who ride to events are a very small minority, especially in the London league. When @Chalfie and I were doing that we didn't encounter many others and a lot of fellow riders have expressed amazement that I was riding home/to the station after a race.

There are people who've missed a train at meopham. And people who drive home from the cyclopark.

After three seasons of that crap I bought a car. I have no other reason to own it. 😆

Is it worth spending money on a well-sealed HT2 BB or just getting a Tiagra one and replacing often? And by "often" I mean once a year.
I only have one bike
As previously mentioned I think the 10 admin fee is a bigger hurdle to people who can only make one race
