  • Yes that’s my baby!

  • They're super useful for tight spaces and also work well for tight screws as you can use your thumb to put full pressure on the top while ratcheting. I keep meaning to buy a second one too!

  • Such a pretty car, you have good taste.

  • Thank you . I love it almost as much as my first born.
And today in the sunshine on quiet country back roads there was nowhere better to be.

  • Bit of a shit pic but my long term project has hit a giant milestone. Nearly ready for flat polishing.

  • Gosh thats pretty, I have a cardon.

  • I have a similar one, but rebranded cheaper that is really handy.

  • Is that you garage?

  • I appreciate that we got the update before DDK!

  • Back in the engine after some modifications:

  • There's a lot of that Abarth in the Renault 5 turbo. Love it

  • We have a new contender.

  • Infact Gandini / Bertone.

  • Not a bad room to wander around. One of 3 , in fact there was so much to drool over I didn’t even see the 365 GTC until the end and it was only when taking pictures of it with my Alfa that I noticed the Lancia convertible , Diablo and DB5 behind it.

  • That was a very pleasant rabbit hole of car design I just fell into. ta.

  • My (cheap) golf's clutch has a very normal bite and doesn't appear to be worn (comparing it to having driven a worn out clutch in a yaris once). Last few days however, it has been sticking and causing me to stall unless I gave it loads of revs. Even then it still stalled sometimes. It is fine changing through the rest of the gears.
I had to get home today from my mate's house and the 90 minute drive was so sketchy, with me attempting not to come to a stop. When I really really had to (before I was leaving a large gap and gradually approaching queues in second), I gave it enough revs to not stall.
At home, I stuck some dot 4 in and it needed not very much at all to be full so I ended up putting too much in. Really couldn't see the max/min of the reservoir so assumed it was really low. I'll take it for a quick spin later to see if that has helped.
What does this sound like? Online suggests: Failed clutch release bearing, Failed slave cylinder, Failed clutch master cylinder, Broken clutch linkage
Any help would be much appreciated please (slightly long paragraph i know - apologies :( )

  • As in pedal gets stuck down? I've had the problem when master cylinder went. Had to pull the pedal back up with my foot every time I shifted and constantly add new fluid.

It's not the CRB. or at least I can't see how that would be possible.

    Doubt its the linkage.

Doubt its the slave as the slave cylinder has the smaller amount of mechanical advantage and you'd probably just lose the ability to disengage the clutch, rather than it coming up aggressively.

    • arm chair mechanic.

  • So the problem is pulling away from stationary in 1st gear?

  • Is it a separate reservoir or part of the brake reservoir? Why is the fluid low? Leak or something else? Is there a leak on the floor is the back of the clutch pedal wet?

  • Dunno if similar but my old Audi dropped a bollock and clutch became undrivable.

Almost impossible to put into gear. So the gear syncro selector was fucked as was the dual mass flywheel as was the clutch plates.

    Only 80k on it too.

Had to have it repaired. Gear box out and 2k lighter.

Then my wife wrote it off a few months later. 😎

  • @Pifko yeah that's it. Completely fine changing through the rest of the gears and returns fine when I do

  • @bright yeah stuck down. Not completely but really sticky on the way back up. Haven't had to use my foot to bring it up though luckily. Could be the clutch cable needing adjusting?

  • @lynx it's part of the brake reservoir. I don't actually think the fluid was low; it was just hard to read. Back of the clutch pedal wasn't wet this morning but I'll check again next time I drive it

@Ordinata that sounds like an unmitigated nightmare. If the repair was above a few hundred quid it wouldn't be worth me doing

  • It's actually feeling a lot better at the moment!

  • Mk5 or 6 golf or derivative of? Yes its your master, sachs make a good one for about £35 i might even have a spare new one! (car was totalled by a bin lorry before i had chance to fix it).
They dont need a lot of tools to change but wpuld aughesy taking drivers seat out and centre console so you can flex the carpet back more eaislw. There's also a clip that usually breaks, get a new one from vag/tps before you start and don't even bother trying to save the old one, will save you an hour and at least 50ml of blood.
Also bleeding, vacuum bleeding is only way on those to get a good pedal without drinking the earth's entire supply of dot fluid and your patience
