Yup, they all are that kinda cost, would love to know of one that isnt! Most folk seem to buy them on finance or some other kind of arrangement with a grant taking part of the cost over a long period 4 years etc, so the "extra thousand" doesn't hurt too much. Over the next few years they'll be more companies in the segment and maybe some lower prices. Theres an Italian front loading typr cargo bike that looks ols interesting, cheaper but heavier (which isnt that high on cargo bike buyers agendas!).
Try convoy products. Also a fair bit of change, but all made to a high standard and in low production numbers. You can make your own, there are plans online for various boxes for them, pickup points on douze are out there in .dwg format.
