  • Did some googling... 650 for one of these frames looks to be a decentish price no?
    4130 can jog on though, for kids bikes.

    Still tempted by a Condor. Sick of my Arkose.

  • So, on my off-road bike it fits 700 x 35 mil, should I have the stays crimped so I can just have bigger clearance or should I have them crimped I can run a 650b x 50?

    • it’s only going to go off road, I have a road bike.
  • My point being, don't be put off by the 4130, they ride great, have huge tyre clearance (I can run a 650bx2.25" knobbly - just), run bolt through and flat mounts, look the shiz and are great value. Would have thought the 4130 would have appealed to a BMX kinda guy too?

    Nah through BMXing I know just how fat and heavy 4139 is and its hardly exotic.

    I'd prob grab some carbon forks...

  • I ride a fair bit of bmx myself (or have done) and it doesn't feel like it's made from the same material. Might be because the tubes are longer, but there's a compliance you wouldn't expect and it doesn't feel as dead or as heavy as you'd think either. But I'd wager its still pretty resilient to a hard life vs fancier steel options. Yeah it's a 50cm. And whilst I like the ride of the fork, I have considered switching to a whisky to save some weight when budgets allow.

  • What is an ok price? I'm totally lost at this stage. Not keen on Geneisisisisisisisisis, can't be bothered to change my (QR) wheels even though I know full well I will within 6 months.

  • I think you might be right for what it is in terms of materials etc, but for me it was the only bike that met all my requirements in terms of geo, availability, wheel and tyre compatibility, chainring clearance etc. And it rides like a 700 quid frameset, not like a 200 quid kids bmx, so if ride quality was a concern more than price then I was trying to say keep it on the shortlist.

  • That’s a difficult one, I just think everything is overpriced because I’m tight, for me a tig welded, fairly simple steel frame in 4130 “should “be around 3 to £400. Obviously for the most part that’s going to be unfeasible because of the cost of everything, but when I see steel frame is it £1000 you really have to question it in my mind

  • They're a sorta bolt though conversion so might be able to run QR too. Could be the best of all worlds. Run the wheels you have for now as QR then upgrade to the carbon fork and/or bolt through set up later down the line. Bolt through is the way forward.

  • I think you forget that companies have to cover development cost and specialized tooling in the sales price as well. Especially with small production runs (<1500-5000 pieces).

    In short:
    Cheap, Special, Nice.. You can only pick two
