How did you get on? Did you manage to sort the ferry crossing in the end?
-
• #21806
Yep, they said they wouldn't have known which ferry I was supposed to be on if I hadn't told them. And the bike capacity on the boats was huge, about a hundred bikes only took up the space of two or three cars so there was plenty of flexibility.
Had a great time on the ride but my lack of fitness/preparation let me down a little bit. 85km doesn't sound too bad but it felt like twice that. I spent a lot of time using my 30T ring...

Glad it worked out. Hopefully I'll be able to make it next year.

Ha, like that!
It looks happy.Rear rack a bit flimsy though?
Also quite a wild cable situation (love the clothes-peg though).. -
• #21810
I think the rear rack is just a bag support

Why would one not want a proper rack instead?
That can act as a 'bag support' but also offer more options at the same time? -

this is for brag support, we're talking about bag support here.
-
• #21818
Because it is heavier and less elegant

Double top tube heavy duty steel frame, and then saving a few grams by using a lighter rack?
-
• #21820
Double top tube is functional in gate-sized frames, also looks pretty cool imo.
-
• #21821
Yeah, totally agree!
: ]I'm saying to me it would not make much sense to mount a wimpy rack for saving weight and because one likes to go for an "elegant" look, if the whole bike is rather heavy and robust looking.

Nitto R14 - 580gm
Tubus Fly in stainless - 440gmAlso, Tubus racks tend to be straight and easy to install.
-
• #21823
Okay maybe not lighter in all cases. Would look worse though. Also less functional as bag support as the platform will be lower and less wide
-
• #21824
Your results may vary, but I’ve found that platform width won’t make that much of a difference. Wider, cheaper alu racks are ubiquitous and look better when not being used IMO.
They’re also about the weight of that Nitto. -

We need a Functional bag supports (that are not being used) thread.
The stays? I donno, I've seen this more than once on glamour shots of fancy bikes, curious.
