Watched Minding the Gap on BBC's iplayer over the weekend with no preconceived opinion of the story and was nicely blown away, and not surprised at all when I found out retrospectively that it had been shortlisted for best documentary at this year’s Oscars.
Coming of age documentary/film set in Illinois based around a group of skateboarding friends, shot and directed by one of the group over a period of years. Growing up, friendship, racial identity, domestic violence, death (no spoilers) all explored amongst amazing skate footage. I haven’t seen a film like this in ages and it has blown everything else I’ve watched recently out of the water. Would recommend!
Watched Minding the Gap on your recommendation and loved it. I skated through my adolescent years and beyond so didn't need much persuading. Thanks for pointing me in that direction.
