Does anyone own a Canyon?

  • Thanks, mate. It makes sense, as 17 would make it horizontal, but it looks a bit rised. It's kind of odd they don't specify it in the description ¯\(ツ)

  • Crash replacement offer is still good from Canyon though

Not if it's a warranty issue it isn't. I've had at least two through warranty from them with no questions asked. Now you have me worried about the next time...

  • They said this was caused by an impact, so not under warranty sadly. Going to get it repaired and sell on to be honest, back to metal bikes for me

  • Wouldn't bother. Just repair it and ride it. After a repair you'll have an absolute nightmare getting rid, and if you've spent the money on repairing it why bother buying something else? Carbon bikes are pretty solid, unlikely to destroy it. That crack is just unlucky.

  • Prob switch to steel or ti if I'm honest

Not that it helps, or means anything particularly, but my CF SLX has been going 6 years and has been hit by 3 cars in that time. My Ti frame cracked going round Regents - and your old Mason came damn close to getting written off when the mech hanger prove to be stronger than the dropout. I'd probably feel the same in your position though (particularly on the steel)..*

*If my Canyon explodes tonight please ensure my lungs are donated to clean air science

  • Strive- anyone has?

  • 650c

  • Just followed a guy on one round the peaks, he likes it and it looked decent. He was smoking me on rocky descents and keeping up on climbs

  • Cheers pal, I'm going to see what can be done re a repair and then think about it.

Although this is seriously tempting me back to steel... https://www.biketart.com/bikes-c1/frames-c33/genesis-volare-disc-931-frameset-2019-p43667

  • Anyone know where I can get replacement screws for the mech hanger?

  • Anyone got a grail AL? It looks like you can fit full mudguards and a rack, right? And how hard would it be to add a dynamo in the future?

  • I have one, and should have done more research on bolt-on mudguard compatibility. Currently using clip-on Raceblade Pro XL(?) until I find a better solution. But not really quite up to 38mm x 650b tyres (Mine's an XS which comes with 650b wheels).

Front fork has a bolt hole under the crown so would need a bolt through the mudguard which should be easy enough.

Rear: there is no chainstay bridge which is more of a problem, and needs some kind of adaptor from seatstay rack mounts (and I have not found one, might need to be custom). There is a bolt hole on the lower back of the seat tube though.

I think that Canyon were originally going to sell specific mudguards but it never happened - there's a couple of pictures of them fitted at a launch event or similar. There are similar-looking models from Topeak (I think) but not been brave enough to buy them off the off chance.

  • Aaaah, okay. This might swing me towards getting a Pinnacle Arkose instead.

So you think front will be easy to get a proper mudguard on, just not the rear? I'm gonna shoot Canyon an email to see what they recommend. I'll let you know what they reply if you like?

  • So you think front will be easy to get a proper mudguard on, just not the rear?

    Probably...

I'll let you know what they reply if you like?

    That would be appreciated, cheers!

  • Ha, okay. They said they're coming out with a mudguard specifically for the Grail later this year. No date or price, though.

    They sent me this image.

Looks lovely, but without prices or dates confirmed, I think this will just push me to buy an Arkose instead!

  • Thanks for update! I meant to post that pic yesterday.

I should point out that Canyon previously said:

There will be fenders for the Grail, we are currently awaiting
confirmation on the date they will be available. We are expecting to
release the Canyon Grail specific mudguards this Autumn [2018].

I didn't buy an Arkose (or Cannondale Topstone, or Trek something) myself as there was no timeline at all on small sizes back in the spring this year.

  • Readers on a shakedown ride - still much to adjust fit wise.
Have changed the wheels, cranks, bars, cassette & saddle... so far.

  • Have changed the wheels, cranks, bars, cassette & saddle... so far.

Why buy OTP if you're gonna change half the stuff?

  • They don't have stock for frame only and think it still worked out better value. First OTP I've bought in 9 years. Bars too wide, cranks too long and who doesn't change the stock saddle. The 'spare' wheels will go on a future build.

Tbh if Ribble had a road bike with the right geo for me, I'd have used their bike builder.

  • The Evans Arkose 650b specific mudguards are really nice also FWIW

  • Why buy OTP if you're gonna change half the stuff?

Aside from the wheels, most of the changes seemed more personal which make sense.

Made similar change on mine (different chainring, bigger cassette, saddle, in-line seatpost, handlebar, stem and bar tape).

  • Canyon Inflite 2020 range out in time for the season. Are there any meaningful changes apart from a few colours and a 10-15% price hike?

    Happy Brexit everyone.

  • Indeed

  • @woods_alexis wtf are canyon designers smoking to have designed an eBike without mudguard mounts?!

  • If you look closely you can see mounts on the inside of the seat stays and fork but if it's like their carbon fitness model they probably forgot the hole at the fork crown. Clearances are limited thought, even on their dedicated urban bikes.
