Honestly...? And you're not going to like this. I can't be arsed. I spoke to plod numerous times, linked to evidence, made a statement in person, sent my bank deets, created a paper trail....
Fuck it. Good luck to him. I'm broke but I'm too busy to mug myself off on some little parasite.

Apparently he did spend a night in the cells though and was questioned a few times.
Seems like £25 well spent to be fair.

All it takes for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing.
Or similar.
Go on. Do the money claim thing. He won't pay, but at least all the hassle might make him think twice about doing it again.

Difficulty with court action is that it costs money and takes time and, even if you get a favourable judgement, you are likely to get nothing.
Police are too busy looking to catch "real" crooks. Petty thieving costs more in paperwork than in the value of what was stolen. Pure economics.

Not how it worked. They put the feet on the ground, decided to track him down, collared him, interviewed people and let him go for "lack of evidence".

And Hefty. Nope. Can't be arsed. Spent too much time on the little prick already.

You were lucky then.
In my case, I provided 300 pages of docs, got three others who suffered same and they still weren't interested!
Small claims...??? Gotta be able to serve the writ! More money down the pan.
Useless in my experience.

I realise that this is quite an old thread, but if it interests you, in January 2014 Cori Maverick Harris was convicted of stealing bicycles from my shed in Ipswich. I got the two bicycles for which he was convicted back, although others that went missing were said to be 'nothing to do with him'. He was accompanied in court by someone who I believe was his brother.

What was he sentenced too?
-
• #867
It was something like 100 hours community service. He was also ordered to pay me £500 compensation for damage to my bike. Thus far, I have received none of this. I notice by Googling that Charlie has, more recently, been done for shoplifting in Ipswich.

No wonder he turned out this much of a fuckup if his parents were that mean to him.
Can everyone who got ripped off join together to form a civil action?
