I can't find the study but the latest I read was that they impair or do nothing for performance but assisted in recovery somehow. More work needs to be done.
Yes there seems to be conflicting reports, but with Quickstep and Jumbo certainly using it, as well as several other WT teams then clearly there is some advantage to be had to it. Recovery and weight loss certainly, but not rocket fuel.
