There's a reason for that.
@umop3pisdn can inform you.

Where’s that shade gif?
-
• #22605
Already 3rd... Must be that Oakley helmet
-
• #22606
Come on Wout!
-
• #22607
got to be one of the GC contenders grabbing this today surely. though sounds like De Gendt flying. that would be pretty cool.
-
• #22608
David Millar has just said that Rohan Dennis pulled out of his first Tour de France with Garmin in a similar way to yesterday.

Bad crash for Van Aert.
-
• #22610
drama, looks bad
-
• #22611
Van Aert down and probably out. Possible broken leg.
-
• #22612
Heartbreak.
-
• #22613
stacked it!
-

It looks like he caught his shoulder or arm on the barrier. It's going to be tough for the riders coming round behind him to not get caught up with the cars in the road too.
-
• #22615
fucking barriers. that looked brutal.
-
• #22616
That was rough
-
• #22617
To be fair to the barrier, he rode right into it. And it was wearing hi viz.
-
• #22618
Has it done barrier training though?
-
• #22619
but road tax, insurance, licence plate, lights?!
-
• #22620
Not sure if it was arm/shoulder or whether it was the bars that hit the barrier first.
-
• #22621
Was outside playing bike-mechanic, sounds horrid. Not seen it, but seen he’s still down just now.
-
• #22622
Yeah, technical corner, he clipped it...
Slomo of his fall made it look like his leg was trailing and he's snapped it above the knee. I really hope that's wrong but horrendous if so.
-
• #22623
I reckon Wout just didn't fancy the Tourmalet tomorrow. Lazy.
-
• #22624
The Tour will be poorer for van Aert's absence. Glad it doesn't sound like a broken leg, being described as a flesh wound.
Let's hope it's not a Monty Python-esque one.

If it is from a zip-tie as suggested than it can be more than just a flesh wound. Had a friend who caught his leg on a zip-tie while practising CX remounts on his bike and cut through a significant amount of muscle, thankfully he missed his femoral artery by about an inch...
Yeah - would like to have seen him give it a go. Has been looking better than he has for a long time.
