  • Can anyone tell me why sliding door train toilets are designed to require a second press of the close button in order to lock them? Why not lock upon closure after the first press? I was again treated to a chap putting himself away recently. I don't blame user error but poor design, although he could have looked at least a little sheepish.

  • I guess it's to stop someone pressing the close button, jumping out and the toilet being locked with no one in there.

  • Also prevents unruly toddlers from getting accidentally locked in / locking their parents out.

More recent designs have a physical lock on the door - to mimic normal doors that aren't stupid.
