  • I had to do an event in Manchester at the last minute early this year. Work wanted to book me an open first class return because it wasn't going to be easy to pin down exactly when I needed to be there.

    Can't remember how much it was but I know that we sent a junior colleague to New York and back for considerably less than Virgin wanted for my ticket to Manchester.

    When my company made a comment on social media, Virgin tried to argue that it was fairly priced because it was a first class ticket. There is literally no justification for a four hour first class train journey to cost more than twelve hours on a plane in economy.

  • Isn’t this a major talking point in the XR thread? Rail travel should be heavily subsidised, and affordable. You could fly anywhere in the world for what GW want on the line between Wales and London.

  • It makes you realise just how un-progressive the UK is when you look at our attitude to public transport.
