When they are good ,they are very good, when they are bad...
Don't by a cheap 1.6, that is why they are cheap. If it is a 1.4, coil packs. Go diesel for reliability (and disdain).
They are on the up at the moment, in the last couple of months two magazines' Autocar and a Classics one have featured them as modern classics with buyers guides. The A2OC.net is great for info, and enthusiastic projects. You'll also hear many tales of woe from 1.6 owners.
