I won't be outside the whole time. I mean, I could, but I want to carry less kit for this race and I don't mind throwing some cash at cheap hotels. Depends on weather too - if it's tipping it down I'm less inclined want to lay outside soaking. Plus, if you pick the right hotels you get to see naked ladies. ;)

I reckon more likely to be saddle than salt.
Having said that, a shower doesn't do any harm.
Bivvying is more fun and easier to arrange - no need to book ahead or stress about not finding a place (ride long enough and it will find you!). Also something great about being outside the whole time.
