  • It's by Transiberica.

You and anyone else can give me a follow too rossthomas83 if you like

  • Interesting, I was thinking of using calf guards but maybe not the best idea

  • What was your error?

I'm still debating a few route choices. There's this awkward distance vs. climb thing that makes everything six of one half a dozen of the other. I'll probably take both routes on my devices and choose one on the road which I don't like doing but I can't decide.

  • I wouldn't. I haven't used them for the last couple of years. I have used compression socks but I always take alternative socks.

  • So many road warnings. The alternatives look like great touring but annoyingly slower.

  • I'm still over 4000k and 44,000m

I might still detour Sofia which will bump both those up I think but I'm not bothering the front end of the race so a 'touring' option isn't such a bad thing.

  • Pretty similar to mine, there's lots of climbing this year!

  • Don't forget your dynamo adds, what is it, equivalent of 4,000m more climbing?
    :)

  • Don't forget your batteries adds, what is it, equivalent of 4,000m more climbing plus you have to stop to recharge them?

    ftfy :)

The rate I'm going I will be running a dynamo hub but with nothing plugged into it, just for bonus drag. Rotor rub is probably another 5W for half the race until they've worn down enough to let the wheels spin. I like to make my life difficult, what can I say?

  • a dynamo hub but with nothing plugged into it

    Possibilities

  • Don't forget your batteries adds, what is it, equivalent of 40 cm more climbing plus you have to stop to recharge them while you are asleep?

    ftfy :)

Disc brakes sound a bit complicated...

  • taps nose

Yeah lots of; this vs that. I've got a few alternatives planned.

  • When are you getting to Burgas?

  • Not many bivvy spots have power sockets.

  • Are you planning to mostly camp out this time?

I'll take hotels where they are in the right place (and will obviously need one every 5 days to recharge) but am looking forward to a couple of nights under the stars in the mountains. Crappy bus shelters with noisy traffic a bit less so.

  • The money I save on hotels pays for disc brakes :)

I'm not actually sure. I was 3 from 4 nights bivvy on TP and had a pretty terrible time with my shredded sitbones but I've also done 7 days of the TCR, bivvying only, and still finished so I don't know what the best option is. Maybe because it was so hot in TP I had more salt and wore the skin away quicker in which case hotels w/ showers might've helped but maybe it was just the saddle change that did me over. I think I'll probably try and use hotels a bit more but I do like the simplicity of bivvying.

  • Wednesday lunchtime, I'm on the 6am flight from Glasgow.

  • Might see you at the airport on similar time from Luton

  • Blacks on TCR has dry bags pretty cheap. The different brands are better value depending on size. I’m guessing might be some pricing issues
    1 ltr £4
    3ltr £2
    5 ltr £10

  • I reckon more likely to be saddle than salt.

Having said that, a shower doesn't do any harm.

Bivvying is more fun and easier to arrange - no need to book ahead or stress about not finding a place (ride long enough and it will find you!). Also something great about being outside the whole time.

  • Anyone looked into getting into town fromt the airport?

I think I did ages ago and it said a taxi was really cheap - but I can't remember now

  • I won't be outside the whole time. I mean, I could, but I want to carry less kit for this race and I don't mind throwing some cash at cheap hotels. Depends on weather too - if it's tipping it down I'm less inclined want to lay outside soaking. Plus, if you pick the right hotels you get to see naked ladies. ;)
