• This, the mk4 is only acceptable as a diesel runabout comfort wagon (and estate) or as a tidy R32 daily driver, not quick but well built and makes you feel almost important.
    The na GTI (family had one) was slower than a house but comfy, and the 1.8t versions weren't a huge amount better (you had to fiddle with them).

    Mk4 golf are better as a TT than as a golf.

    Mk5 Gti are worth getting, they rust a bit but now cheap as they'll ever be and fun/quick B road basher.
