  • Also, one really noticeable thing. First time I did it - more so because it was foggy most of the way - a really enjoyable thing was not worrying about cars because you could see and hear them coming from a long way off. This time I was constantly not sure if a car was coming because in the intervening years cars have got quieter, while bikes have got much much brighter and in some cases louder (groups with noisy wheels and drivetrains). Some pass rather closer than desired too. It's not as restful.

  • This was something that I did note, the noise of some of the bikes definitely made me think that a car was about to smack me with their wingmirror but it was just a club train buzzing past me rather close instead.
An extra takeaway, given I've only ever really done long solo rides, a 100km 'audax', and inner city things like cobblemonster and Fixed Beers rides, the Dynamo has definitely confirmed my decision to not want to join a traditional cycling club.

I had that with lights instead. There was a group of 3 or 4 cyclists with really strong headlights coming up from behind at some point and then just kind of hanging around semi-behind me. I thought it was a car based on the lights and got quite frustrated until I realised it was just a bunch of bicycles...
