  • Why would they be girls trousers?

  • They stopped the 9 in like 2007 no?
My dad has an 03 900 with 13k miles on it that he’d let me have cheap but I want something newer and smaller ideally. I really like the 600s after 2012 when they tidied the tail up

  • No idea when production finished, was the old fireblade engine tuned for more mid range. Friend had one and it was fun to ride, as am upright non faired bike.

That was it. Friend had a 6 that had done over 100k miles and the engine was still sweet. The rear shock had been changed as that had leaked but apart from regular servicing and wear items the bike was fine.

  • Yeah man that’s the dream. A fun 600 that will last me years and is relatively comfy for longer rides without sacrificing the short blast fun factor.
It was nice having more power on the Kawasaki 750 but I did miss my shouty Suzuki 600

  • You can tell by the zip. Left hand entry = womens. Right hand entry = mens.

  • Lots of bikes on the way to loch Leven

  • Strange sizing.
42S as in inches? Asking, because normally, that would be a suit size - 42UK or 52 Euro. It’s 21” chest.

  • It's really odd.

They fit like something between 32"-34".

I can't seem to find a decent HG size chart either, and as they went under there's no one to contact.

I'm wearing them most of today as most people are on holiday. They are meant to have some sort of "cool black" coating, which seemed to work this morning. Waiting to see what going back in when it's hotter with more direct sunshine.

On the subject of heat when riding, do iridium / reflective visors reduce heat on your face vs a regular black tint?

  • Not that I’ve noticed - they look cool though. Especially if you are a child of the 90s...(iridium)

  • To a degree yeah, because people know they're sought after. Also by the time you get all the gubbins, the cost escalates. You also have to DIY a speedo sensor.
I don't mind the standard setup, but it could do with a lot of rebound adjustment.

  • My front brake is feeling a bit vague. I left it tied up over yesterday and last night and it's feeling a bit firmer, but still not amazing.

I'm going to give them a clean as it's been a while, but was also wondering about changing the pads.

What are peoples views which pads? Organic, sintered, semi-sintered? EBC?

It's for an aircooled bonnie scrambler - so single calliper, duel piston. Mainly for commuting in London, so lots of braking no track.

I've heard some people using organic on the rear to smooth out/reduce the initial bite as it's easy to lock the rears.

  • Need to say a huge thanks to @Markyboy for his advice a few months ago on the Scotland touring route. Incredibly helpful and just finishing up a 10 day tour, which unfortunately happened in the car. Few pics from 1 afternoon on the coast road a852 from Ullapool to Applecross and one Airbnb host's Royal Enfield collection in Scalpal (on Harris).
Happy to share in detail and the small changes I'd make plus bnb/restaurant recommendations.

  • Price drop to £999 on my Bandit.

It is much harder to shift it than I thought. Absolutely no interest.

No wonder there are so many bikes on eBay at a £0 start and no reserve...

  • Am not a fan of EBC, and I used to get them very cheap.

What type of caliper is it, stick a photo up so we can see if it is a sliding caliper etc. What make is the brake caliper? How old is the fluid? What is the fluid grade? Could the pads be contaminated/glazed?

  • Also need pads. Used to run organic for courier /city use, but they just melt out on the roads. Dont get out much but its usually heavy two up with day luggage. Overhauled every part of the brembo and getting new sintered this week i hope as away all next week.
Also need a throttle tube, partially broke it ages ago and just know it'll fail on me when in the middle of nowhere

  • It's the stock nissin 2 pot. Fluid is new. But gut says the pads are probably glazed. It's just finding some time to clean them.

  • Insurance renewed, fully comp for first time ever (somehow it is 1/3 the price of TP only?) for an old not valuable bike. £7 odd a month, yes for being in my 30s!

  • You must be outside London!

I used to pay £70 per year TPFT for my Bandit when I lived in Scotland, this went up to £180 for TP only when I moved to Stoke Newington.

Now my new postcode (SE14 Lewisham) seem to be in the dangerzone as quotes came back around £220!

  • Brake pads @brickman are an emotive subject as everyone has their belief. For my 2ps worth for brembos I like either the brembo oe pads or bendix pads. Both aren't cheap but I like the feedback and feel. But that probably is all in my head.

@hugo7 Usual thing is check the sliding pins are free, then I clean the discs surface with an angle grinder with a wirebrush attachment to remove the pad residue. Also clean out the holes in the disc with a drill bit then rebed the pads. Ride up to 60 or 70 then sharp brake to0 about 10mph and do that a few times and think that is a good way to bed any pads car or bike.

Also insurance does not seem to follow any logic, there is a thread on MSE showing the logic.

  • Glasgow, bike theft is beginning to get worse here, Edinburgh is a no go zone even for old bikes like mine, pretty much every week you hear about some German tourists relieved of their bikes overnight or at knife point at some traffic lights.
TBF though you see MANY folk parking £££ bikes on just a steering lock and maybe a £10 disc lock (on a £10k+ bike), my locks are (by insurance table of values) cost more than my bike is worth, but its still here.

  • Decent chains, i still say almax!!!

  • So bike might be in more pieces than it was a few hours ago. All to change fuel hose (as no one seems to sell stuff that lasts more than 2 years without getting brittle) and move carb needles up one (notch leaner).
Also changing the clock out for a coolant temp sensor because why not.

  • Shot in the dark here - would anyone know of the location of a Z650 tank ? It's a '78 I've been working on for a few months.
Other than the usual flaebay, gumtree etc. Ta.

  • Both aren't cheap but I like the feedback and feel.

Likewise. I'd much rather have progressive brakes that have a bit more feel. With EBC's it used to be ON/OFF. With Vesrah I can really yank on them, but get a good feel of limits. Even dabbled in trail braking with them with good results.
