I DAS'd the same guy on the Cinelli & he responded 'why?', made me sad!

I DAS'd someone on the way in to the beach car park as I walked to the pub after leaving my bike at the lorry and was told to Fuck Off so I apologise to her for that

did they have a red genesis flyer? if so me. hi

This was something that I did note, the noise of some of the bikes definitely made me think that a car was about to smack me with their wingmirror but it was just a club train buzzing past me rather close instead.
An extra takeaway, given I've only ever really done long solo rides, a 100km 'audax', and inner city things like cobblemonster and Fixed Beers rides, the Dynamo has definitely confirmed my decision to not want to join a traditional cycling club. -

Second DD for me (1st last year). Loved every minute. Agree with the above that the turn out seemed smaller and more roady-ish this year, I missed seeing a wider mix of people. The only real novelty i saw was a lightless teenager dressed as a clown who was coming in the opposite direction in one the Essex villages.
Rode with a couple of much faster friends this year and couldn't believe i was able to maintain the pace. Arrived a full 2 hours earlier, although we also stopped less.
@TvH agree: vegan beans were a bit hard to digest was back on the bike. Last year's vegan wiener (sounds like an insult: you vegan wiener!) was much better. Whilst I'm moaning about food - thought the breakfast in The Ship was poor this year - fry ups without toast?!!

the buses at the end... made me want to turn round and start riding quicker.
was great contrast riding back to the pub on the park. In the car park at dunwich - lots of people cheering and offering beer etc. back in london - nothing. no one cared - just another person on a bike.

I had that with lights instead. There was a group of 3 or 4 cyclists with really strong headlights coming up from behind at some point and then just kind of hanging around semi-behind me. I thought it was a car based on the lights and got quite frustrated until I realised it was just a bunch of bicycles...

I had a pretty decent light and got told off by someone who was adamant I overtook her which was a bit of a pain as we were on a hill and with 170 miles in my legs I was trying to go at a steady pace (which happened to be similar to hers).

The highlights for me were watching the gradual change in the colour of the sky during sunset and then dawn, followed by the dawn chorus and the steadily reducing size of roads as we got closer to the beach.
My brother and our two friends were one of the roadie douchebag crews, though a lot more considerate than most I hope. There were some proper choppers around. I was on the front most of the time and got cut up several times by the tail end of a bunch pulling in too soon after passing us.
It warmed my heart and made me smile every time we passed someone on a mad Christmas tree of a bike, so despite being the opposite ourselves, I'd love to see more of that kind of cyclist on the Dynamo.
Having said that, once is probably enough for me as the lack of sleep fall-out was a bit wack on Sunday. One less roadie buzzing the lit-up smiling people.

I was definitely getting cranky myself at that point but they also came up relatively quickly and then just hovered there, basically exactly what some drivers do when they're not sure whether to overtake. They had me fooled for a good minute...

Yes, same for me on my first Dynamo. Was a bit of an anticlimax other than that, arriving on a cool, pebbly, drizzly beach with Sizewell B looming on the right. My aunt, who lives in Ipswitch, assures me that it's a lovely place, but maybe the 150 miles so far & no sleep coloured things a little for me! Would've been nice to hang around a bit, but the queue & the fact I had another thirty miles to get some sleep put me off a bit.
Great experience though! So nice to be out in the country rather than the dirty London air. Was expecting to see more wacky bikes, as other people have said. Everyone I talked to was lovely & it was fun to ride with loads of different groups until I found one riding the right pace for me. Somehow ended up on the front for a little bit & noticed that there were no lights in front for a while! Turned around & there was a huge line of lights, felt quite responsible! Thankfully I managed to get back towards everyone else's route quite quickly.

@SwissChap hope that wasn't us. I was rocking a pretty bright front light and sat behind a guy on a road bike and a women riding fixed for a fair few miles. Although they had a speaker playing what sounded like a misaligned derailleur from 5ft away - so, confusion alround.
-
• #214
No definitely not, I was riding fixed myself and there was definitely no music either :D

Phew!
Has anyone mentioned the giant haystack fire near Hedingham Castle yet? That was pretty dramatic. One classic DD moment was being cheered on by drinkers outside a pub in Tyler's Green one for a car simultaneously sped past in the opposite direction with the driver shouting "wankers!!!!"

giant haystack fire
Oh yeah that was immense! Kinda looked like some trees might be alight too, but probably/hopefully not.
-
• #217
Yeah, that was pretty impressive... I was worried for a bit because it was so tall that it looked like it might be a house, but it really seems to have been just haystacks.

Ah we saw this way off to our right for ages... (we took a wrong turn and did 95miles without seeing another soul...) generally (and I’m no expert) stuff that’s not meant to burn, houses etc give off thick black smoke, stuff that is gives off white smoke, organic stuff... looked like it was huge but deliberately constructed from our distance... 🤷♂️

• #219
When we went past there was blue lights at the base, I guess firefighters putting it out?
-
• #220
No sensible way to put something like that out. They'll just make sure it doesn't spread
-
• #221
I saw the blue lights and just thought they'd have been a warning to alert people to not go down the track towards the fire
I das'd someone on the beach on a fixed gear with a lfgss jersey
