It's a matter of taste, non?
-

Indeed.
I quite like them. They're chunky and will balance the frame with the oversize headtube. The top tube and seatstays are quite narrow so it should look all in proportion.
They were not the first choice mind, I originally went for dropouts with the brake mount integrated in but they were out of stock with a month lead time so this was next best. -
• #379
I think those small dropouts are way more elegant, think you've made the right choice there...

Cool.
I had just thought I'd use long taper but then Peter at Ceeway offered me the short taper so I googled a few images and thought the chunkier look was quite nice. Also wondered if they might be a bit stiffer.
@PhilDAS did you see Antii Konga was selling some yokes and stuff via IG? I've bought a twin plate fork crown, a cast crown and a gravel version of the chainstay yoke.

Apparently in the wrong plane since oval stays are stiffer vertically and compliant laterally which is kinda the opposite of what you want but hey ho.
Yeah I saw all that on IG but wasn't keen on any of it. I still think I'll only use half of the mtb yoke as it weighs a tonne and didn't see any use for the other stuff. Most of my builds will be for carbon forks also and I'm not at the fork building stage yet.

Fair enough.
I really want to get into forks but it’s going to be a leap of faith. Figured, buy a couple crowns while they’re cheap and they’ll encourage me to get on with it.
Was really tempted by the big triplane crown but it was 1 ½” which I’ve not yet dabbled in.

Interested to see how you do use it. I’m thinking of chopping the driveside out of that frame and rebuilding it with an elevated chainstay like the fatbike that got posted in the ratbike thread a couple weeks ago.

Youll need something, either a bought or made fixture, flat mount is really easy to be totally on the piss, especially with the heat needed for brazing. We got some of these stays and mounts to play with, but I'm not a masive fan tbh. It's a standard that was designed without thought for builders still using metal imo, but we are where we are. Integrated into the drop out is happiest for me at least, but obvs then causes issues for crank/heel/chainring clearance.

• #385
I see. Do you have something similar as an idea?
I need a load more tooling I do realise
-
• #386
My anvil adaptor turned up, so am selling my incepi one if you want it?
-
• #387
Anvil Post Punk with FM adaptor? That's what I've got. It's jolly good.

Yes please. Do I need a dummy axle for it?
-
• #389
Yeah, much better access for welding than the incepi, plus less shit to lose. Incepi one however can deal with indexed bolt thru drop outs, which the anvil one fails to do, but swings and roundabouts...
-
• #390
Yeah, generic anvil type.
-
• #391
Do I have to order that from the US?
Got anything else to sell me? :)
-

Yep, I ended up having to get two dummy axles, one indexed for building the rear triangle and one non-indexed for use with the Post Punk.

• #393

The Anvil fixture, yes.
-
• #394
Yeah, I'd ordered a load of stuff before I realised, so just made a plate to go I between the post punk and the flat mount adaptor. Works nicely.
-
• #395
Although the fb group always has this sort of crap for sale.
-
• #396
Aye, every bike we used to unbox that was flat mount needed facing and many more than a little clean up..!
-
• #397
Rekon you gotta go white bar tape on bullhorns. Presume you're using the magic gear ratio to run this sweet thang fixehd.
-
• #398
Of course. Sweet baby blue fixie
-
• #399
NGL, rekon the biggest issue here is whether to go light brown tape or white.
-
• #400
It shall sadly be neither. Definitely black. However I do have some NOS flouro pink Silva tape kicking about...
Build will be unremarkable while I test the frame and ride.
It was definitely an excercise in building experience. I’m not too excited for a skinny tyre, rim brake road frame tbh.
I was planning on building myself my “ideal” road bike based around the Genesis I’m currently riding. Just with a longer headtube, neater cabling and thru axle/flat mount rear but I may yet just modify the Genesis instead.
Are short taper considered uggers? I'm using them on my frame :S
