That's not why they're using them

Have you ever lifted a Dogma frame?

I thought the whole conspiracy about Sky using electric motors hidden in wheels is that the weight of their bikes corresponded exactly to being X grams heavier than everyone else's... X being the weight of a electric motor assisted wheel of course

Le ruote Lightweight sono ancora disponibili?
-
• #22281
Vuelta is often the best stage race of the season, what! End of contract desperation, GC riders who haven't picked up anything in previous GTs going all out, lax Spanish doping controls. Vuelta is the one.
-
• #22282
So why are they using them?
-
• #22283
Nope, have only ever seen them in passing in bike shops tbh
-
• #22284
I'm not saying its not a good race but its usually the poor cousin of the other two (at least as regards public perception). Plus I've never heard anyone claim its better than the tour (until now). I've heard Giro is better than the Tour a million times though.
-
• #22285
Yeah, doesn't have the glamour of the other two admittedly but I definitely enjoy it a lot more than Giro or TdF.

This review of an F10 with Etap and 303s in a 52cm had it at 6.84kg

6:40 on this video- rim brake version is 6.97kg so not exactly worth pissing off Shimano of 170g -
• #22288
Because they're faster
-
• #22289
Marginal gains, also Etap is lighter than Duraace di2, so more weight to lose
-
• #22290
Pinas are heavy as fuck so that could be the case.
They're using the 'not aero at all' old version of the Lightweights so maybe their calcs were all about the weight.I'd have thought they give the doms the aero kit and the (literally) protected riders the lighter kit, given the big differences they're making in the stage are going to be right at the end when it's all climb, no wind.

a brief taste of echelons.

• #22292
if nothing else the lightweights complete the Evil Empire look

Groenewegen?
-
• #22294
Groenewegen by a gnat’s bollock.
Ewan seems to have changed his style. Not as low over the bars these days.
-
• #22295
superb sprint finish that.
-
• #22296
insane backwheel lift going on. seemed to be one step from veering completely out of control
-
• #22297
Couple of watts saved at the pointy end, keeping the wheels turning are better than watts saved when you’re riding zone 2/3 in the bunch.
-
• #22298
Agreed. With 250 to go it looked like Viviani had it in the bag, but events unfolded so quickly you only realised he was nowhere long after the finish.
-
• #22299
DQS claiming Viviani punctured and couldn’t sprint properly.

Tejay has got in the metaphysical car
That whole thing seems strange to me. Although light, isn’t the rim design about ten years old? Would they not create more drag over a stage than the modern Shimano equivalent? I’d have thought the only scenario it would be a benefit would be to attack and get a gap on a summit finish, but that’s only going to have come after many KMs of up and down.
