the way I'd look at it is that it could have landed on a lug and damaged the case. instead the crystal came to the rescue and sacrificed itself. Much cheaper to replace a crystal than a case. A full service and new crystal might only set you back around £400 or so. Don't let any crystal shards damage the dial or it might get expensive quickly. My guess is that a £2k repair bill involved a new dial at least, if not a new case as well

And even half that is insane... But it is what it is. It probably needed a service anyway. LOL
