  • When discussing online form design, is there an accepted visual and written shorthand for:

    • a form element from which user can select exactly one item
    • a form element from which user can select one or more items

without upsetting UX/UI people by constraining how they implement it?

I've called them 'single-select' and 'multi-select', but still seems to confuse people.

  • Ah pfffft just tell them the user can select one item from this list and one or more items from this list. And make it clear if they can select no items :)

  • I think I'll call them 'select single item' and 'select multiple items' and define those terms somewhere.

Yes I didn't mention 'no items', but that's important too, so will include.
