That's what I thought when I heard too. But it couldn't be that difficult for him to instruct the next foreign secretary to recommend someone else of his choosing to the post?

How long does it take to appoint a new ambassador? Is it a shrewd move to allow a sensible selection before Johnson becomes PM and does something stupid?
