• The reason for being what some may suggest is overly paranoid is that the Mrs is riding a 1200km audax starting on Friday and if her tyres go down every two hours that will get boring fast. Happy to pay for someone to hand back a pair of wheels that are in perfect condition.

  • What’s the name of the shop?

  • I'd say if they're going up sans sealant then they'll go up with sealant and be fine, only problem is them not staying on the rim shelf when fully deflating and her getting a puncture that won't seal and them fully deflating and not being able to reseat with a small pump. I'd wager a bit of time spent inflated with sealant would help them stick when seated anyway. Go with however many layers of tape seemed closest to keeping in on, then put some sealant in and inflate away.

  • We're the workshop underneath rapha Manchester, or you might say rapha workshop.

  • This is why I carry pump and gas canisters.

The muck off sealant doesn’t screw with CO2

  • I have suggested that me Julie visits Dave tomorrow morning, thanks.

  • No worries, I'll let him know to expect her.

Maybe not a good plan to trust that something rushed on Thursday will be fine for the whole weekend. I'd put tubes in and worry about why your wheels aren't actually tubeless-ready next week.

  • I'd say putting more layers of tape helps if the tire feels loose and let air out instead of seating. If it's the other way around I'd try one layer. Gorilla tape is also more flexible and less bulky if you feel like the tire is too tight.

  • Just had immense success getting 32mm gravelkings on 90s open pros using skinnystripper latex liners. Went up with a track pump. I’ll update in a few days once I’ve actually done a couple of commutes on them but so far so good!

  • Tubeless with carbon rim brakes .. bit stupid really

  • Pros. 🤷‍♂️

  • It’ll result in some sort of blowout and would result in a delay for @dubtap to adapt tubeless

  • I still don't have an 11 speed bike

  • Me neither.
In going to sweep up when everyone jumps from 12 to 14 speed. They won't do a 13 cassette. There would be too many testers turning them upside down for good luck.

  • Tubeless with carbon rim brakes .. bit stupid

What makes you think it's a worse idea than using a tube?

  • Recommendations on an affordable tubeless ready 29 x 2.0 or under MTB tyre? basically looking for a gravel tyre without the hipster tax.

I know that Specialized Storm Control's should fit the bike and I can get them for a ridiculous £9.99 each, but will probably be a bit overkill tread wise.

  • Specialized Fast Traks come in 2.0 and can be had pretty cheap - I picked up some S-Works 650b ones for a tenner a while back which are incredible light.

  • the race XC tyres are fragile, ask @cake and his thunder burts full of anchovies

  • Ugh.

    They're 2.1s

Someone feel free to take them. Got about 500 miles.

And a similar number of anchovies.

They roll beautifully. For short periods of time.

Just got given some of these. Will report back.

  • Update on gravelkings on open pros tubeless with latex liners. Still no explosions. Even with dropping off kerbs.

  • Are you talking about XC race tyres in general? Does the fact that I’m looking for something on the slimmer end (compared to most modern mtb tyres) make them generally XC race tyres?

  • 2.0 these days are 'race' tyres

  • Look like 2.1 is all that’s available. I think 2.0 is the upper limit really, wouldn’t want to push it further.

For clarity they’re going on an arkose
Got the idea from this guy’s posts here and here

The original idea was to get these and some Conti Sport contact 2s that I’d swap between when I fancy.

Thought I should maybe go somewhere in between and go tubeless instead, see what all the faff is about.
