  • Shout out to the hive mind in case I'm being a massive idiot: I'm trying to find a spot to go for one-night camps during the week. In my head, it seems that a 'proper' site would be better just because I'd like to have access to a drinking water tap and maybe a sink, so I don't have to cart extra water about.

Unfortunately I can't seem to find anywhere reasonable that isn't closed during the week - should I just find somewhere shortly after leaving a pub and filling up a bidon or two?

  • Yeah just carry more water and go for breakfast/coffee when you wake up

  • Loads of places for water if you look around. Parks, churches, cemeteries, community halls, allotments - all often have taps

  • https://refill.org.uk/get-the-refill-app/ plus a mini Sawyer filter have carried me over multiple two day trips in the past few weeks.

  • I've wild-camped a number of spots down there (south downs way between alfriston and Jevington, cuckmere haven beach and the woods behind cuckmere haven) - there's also a pub in Chalvington (The Yew Tree) that let's you camp around the edge of the cricket pitch behind the pub if you eat there. All lovely spots, but I'd always be inclined to go wild...
